Parts of Oman to witness fog, rainfall

Muscat: There are chances of fog forming during the late night and early morning on Saturday in parts of the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Dhofar, and Al Dhahirah, which may affect the level of horizontal visibility at times.  The General Directorate of Meteorology said in a weather alert.

The latest weather updates and analysis of the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center indicate that an upper air trough will likely affect the Sultanate of Oman from Sunday 5th of November 2023 until Thursday 9th of November 2023.

“Clouds advection with chances of thunderstorms of varying intensity associated with active downdraft winds and hail are expected over the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Muscat, Al Dakhyliah, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah, while the heaviest rainfall is expected over Al Hajar mountains, adjoining areas and Oman Sea coastal areas,” Oman Meteorology said.

After the passage of the trough, there will be a relative drop in temperatures due to northwesterly winds.

Details of daily weather conditions:
1. Clouds advection and formation with thunderstorms of varying intensity (10 - 40 mm) associated with hail may cause the flow of water in wadis.
2. Active downdraft winds with speeds ranging between 28-56km/h.
3. Wave height is likely to rise to moderate 2 meters along Musandam west coasts and Oman Sea coasts during the effect of thunderstorms.

The Civil Aviation Authority advised all to take precautions during rainfall, to check visibility and sea state before sailing, and to follow the issued weather bulletins & reports.
