MUSCAT: Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, the Minister of Interior, emphasised the deep commitment and profound interest of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in fostering citizen participation in nation-building.
Speaking at a press conference after the announcement of the Shura Council election results, he said: “His Majesty’s unwavering belief in the significance of citizen involvement has been further reinforced through legislative, regulatory, and procedural developments that align with the Council of Oman’s future objectives.
During a press conference on Sunday, Al Busaidi highlighted the unparalleled progress and modernisation in Oman’s electoral process.
Al Busaidi said: “Notably, this advancement has been characterised by the streamlining of procedures. Last year’s municipal council elections marked a pivotal moment, with their transformative influence extending to the recent elections. These elections were conducted seamlessly at every stage, culminating in the accurate and secure electronic tabulation of votes, through mobile devices and application “Intakhib”.
“Moreover, numerous electronic services were introduced, including a platform for dialogue to facilitate the exchange of ideas among members of society and enhance candidate-voter communication. These initiatives created an interactive environment that made it easier and more convenient for voters to exercise their electoral rights and select their representatives in the Shura Council.”
Al Busaidi also pointed out that all data and statistics related to the electoral process were broadcast in real-time through digital technologies, enabling interested parties and observers to access this information effortlessly.
The Minister of Interior extended his congratulations to the successful Shura Council candidates and expressed his best wishes for their success in fulfilling their national duties and contributing to the Council’s noble objectives. -With inputs from ona
