Muscat: An Omani student Ayham Abdullah Al Shukairi has been awarded for his innovation that will make an efficient use of water and also cut down oil production costs.

Al Shukairi received the ‘Steam Award for Creative Ideas of the UNESCO Schools, as part of the National Science and Technology Week in the Sultanate of Oman for his innovation technique to be used in the production of oil.

Al Shukairi said that he visited one of the oilfields in the Nimir area and studied the work mechanism of the project and what needs to be done for more efficient and productive use of water accompanying the production of oil.

He said that the project comprises two parts; the first segment comprises the design of turbines for generating electricity in the pipes and the second part involves treatment of water for its purification. The water is collected in large basins exposed to sunlight, in which particles are placed to speed up the evaporation process and then it is collected as distilled water and salts.

He said that his innovation would contribute to reducing the cost of production and improvement in oil output processes.

The project would offer innovative solutions for oil production at the world level, he added.

He said that through this project, we aim to achieve our future vision by executing the initial model of the project as a simulation to what actually happens on the ground. “We have made several processes in virtual reality and initially the model will test both the first and second parts of the project,” he added.
