Campaign launched to clean Oman's coral reefs

Muscat: A campaign to clean up eight coral reef sites in the Damaniyat Islands Reserve has been launched, according to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA).

An official from MECA announced online: "The ministry is carrying out a campaign to clean the reef environments in Al Dimaniyat Islands Reserve as part of a clean seas campaign by the United Nations Environment Program."

Within two days, debris and fishing nets were removed from coral reefs environments, that damage the life of marine animals such as turtles.

"The campaign surveyed eight target sites. It was attended by a number of divers from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, the Oman Volunteer Divers Team and the Environment Society of Oman, as well as had logistical support from the Comprehensive Diving Company," the ministry added.
