Muscat: The impact of the tropical storm 'Tej' is expected to continue in Dhofar and Southern parts of Al Wusta governorates until Tuesday afternoon, October 24, 2023, Oman Meteorology said.
The tropical storm made landfall through Al Mahra governorate in Yemen. Wind speed around the center is estimated to be between 50 to 60 knots. Heavy rainfall and strong wind will prevail during the next hours over Governorate of Dhofar and southern parts of Al Wusta.
The coastal and mountainous willayats of Dhofar governorate will continue witnessing heavy rainfall and the flowing of wadis.
The peak of the impact is expected to continue on Dhofar and Southern parts of Al Wusta Governorates until today afternoon as heavy rainfall ( 50-200 ) mm with expected flash floods and fresh to very severe blowing winds ( 30-50 ) knots. The sea is expected to be very rough ranging between ( 5-8 ) m. In addition, sea water may inundate over low level coastal areas.
The Civil Aviation Authority advises all to take maximum precautions and not to risk crossing valleys and to avoid low - lying areas. It is also advised to avoid the sea during this period.
