CDAA gears up to deal with tropical situation 'Tej'

Muscat: The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) confirmed its readiness to deal with the tropical situation 'Tej' and has put its departments in the Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates on alert to respond to with the effects that may result from the situation.

Lieutenant Colonel Engineer Mohammed bin Hamoud Al Mahmoudi, Assistant Director General of Operations and Training at the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, said that since the announcement of the weather situation in the Arabian Sea and the fact that the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta are likely to be most affected by the tropical situation, the department has been reinforced with manpower and vehicles designated for search and rescue operations.

Boats, jet skis, and a lot of equipment and supplies, in addition to the deployment of 5 advanced points in the Dhofar Governorate and three points in the Al Wusta Governorate have been made to ensure that rescue teams reach the affected areas, he added.

He pointed out that the search and rescue sector and the hazardous materials handling sector, whose management is the responsibility of the Authority, are constantly following up on developments in coordination with the members of the two sectors to harness the capabilities and unify efforts.

He urged the need for citizens and residents to adhere to the instructions issued by the concerned authorities in order to preserve the safety of lives and property.

The Assistant Director General of Operations and Training, confirmed that there is an awareness plan that targets citizens and residents about the dangers of floods and the necessary precautions to be taken in such cases, which are broadcast through the Authority’s websites and social media. He appealed to everyone to be careful, not to take risks, and to stay away from low places and slopes, avoid circulating rumours, and listen to warnings and bulletins issued by official authorities.

The Director of the Consumer Protection Department in Dhofar Governorate, stressed the stability of prices in the markets of Dhofar Governorate, while tightening control over markets and shops to monitor any violations and warned of legal measures against violators through field work teams in the states.

The Authority informed all consumers that the call centre on its toll-free numbers (80077997 - 80079009) will work to receive reports and take necessary measures to deter violators. The Authority calls on everyone to demonstrate a spirit of cooperation and solidarity.
