Indian actor Captain Raju discharged from Oman hospital, flown back

Muscat: Indian actor Captain Raju, who had been admitted to the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital, Darsait, was discharged on Monday morning and flown back to India.
The veteran Malayalam actor who had suffered a stroke, had been admitted to the hospital last Tuesday. A representative of KIMS Hospital disclosed that the actor had been flown back on a stretcher to his hometown Kochi, Kerala.
Last Tuesday, Raju was been flying from Kochi to New York for his son Ravi’s wedding, when his son noticed that he had started slurring while talking. Raju had suffered a stroke two to three years, ago. So, suspecting the worst, Ravi informed the cabin crew of Etihad Airlines.
The plane that was supposed to fly to New York via Abu Dhabi, made an emergency landing at Muscat International Airport. After the plane landed, he was first taken to the KIMS clinic at the airport and then shifted to KIMS Hospital in Darsait.
Hospital authorities said that the 68-year-old, a former military officer, had been recovering well from the stroke, even before he was discharged. “He was recovering rather well, his speech is better. He even got some physiotherapy here (at KIMS), which will essentially help him recover. This is because, in a stroke, one side of the person’s body is weakened and the ability to move and speak is compromised. He was also doing better on his secondary health issues like diabetes and hypertension,” a hospital representative added.
The hospital representative added that the actor would continue his treatment in Kerala. “He will now get physiotherapy in Kochi. He can’t expect to recover, right away, though. It’ll take a few months. He did fly on a stretcher on Monday, but he can’t do that often, he’ll have to stay put and rest up,” he added.
Captain Raju is a Kerala native, but has acted in over 500 movies in Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and English languages.
