Muscat: The Wabar archaeological park in Dhofar will be subject to new vehicle entry fees, a new decree by the Diwan of Royal Court said.
Decree No 8/2018 was issued to determine the entry fees for vehicles visiting the park in Dhofar. The decree states that fees are to be paid while purchasing the entry ticket.
According to Article 1 of the decision, the fees are as follows:
- Four-wheel drive and saloon vehicles: OMR2.
- Small buses: OMR20.
- Medium buses: OMR50.
- Large buses: OMR100.
Wabar is one of the most important heritage sites in the Governorate of Dhofar and was listed on UNESCO's World Cultural and Natural Heritage list in 2000, under the name of Frankincense Land Sites. This was added to the list along with Al Baleed archaeological Park, Samahram Archaeological Park and Frankincense Sanctuary in Wadi Dhofar.
Wabar Archaeological Park contains sites dating back to the Neolithic and Iron Age. The park was a point of control in freshwater sources in the south of the Empty Quarter and an active commercial centre for the collection and operation of commercial caravans across the Arabian Peninsula. Many archaeological discoveries were found in Wabar, but the most important of which are chess pieces, pottery, stone vessels, glassware, stone lamps, incense burners, tools, flint tools, wooden plates, arrowheads and iron weights.
