Muscat: Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, will mark the World Food Day, which falls on October 16 of each year.
This year’s celebration comes under the slogan “Water is Life, Water is Food.” Rapid population growth, urbanisation, economic development and climate change will lead to the planet’s water resources being exposed to increasing stress, with fresh water resources per person declining by 20 percent around the world over the past decades.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources works to enhance water availability in Oman through building dams, artificial rain seeding project, as well as rehabilitating and maintaining aflaj and water facilities, and developing water resources monitoring system and modern irrigation systems.
