Muscat: The agreement signed by the United States and Oman on cooperation in the field of science and technology was a significant step forward, the US Embassy in Muscat reaffirmed.
The deal would lead to expansion of cooperation in the field of science and technology for peaceful purposes and for providing further opportunities in exchange of views, information and skills, said Marc J. Sievers, the US ambassador to the Sultanate in a statement.
The agreement was signed on Friday in Davos by Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, minister responsible for Foreign Affairs and US Secretary of State John Kerry.
“We should utilise this opportunity to achieve economic diversification and development of business,” he said, adding that the US would benefit through providing new research and development of partnership with academic institutions in the Sultanate.
He said that the US has bilateral agreements with the Sultanate and multi-party agreements with various countries in the fields of science and technology.
The agreement provides a mechanism for research and development efforts and facilitates exchange of scientific information among other aspects.
