Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis.

Muscat: Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, who was in the city for the 27th session of the Joint GCC-EU Ministerial Council in Muscat, said that both countries have a lot in common, which makes Oman the perfect destination in the region for them to do business.

He said, “We are very close partners. We have a very close diplomatic and political relationship with Oman. During the meeting with Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, we discussed how to build on this relationship, which we currently have. We need to engage more on trade, investments as we already have a high level of trust between the two countries.”

During the meeting with the foreign minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis said that he explored various aspects of cooperation and means of promoting them particularly in areas of tourism, renewable energy, agriculture, and port logistics.

The meeting also witnessed signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the tourism field. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania said that the MoU aims at promoting cooperation in the tourism field between the two sides and discussing the potential of operating a direct flight between the two countries. “We want Lithuania to be discovered as an interesting country and very different from Oman,” he said.

“We also discussed the possibility of direct flights to boost tourism. We don’t have a national airline - so we are encouraging our partners and friends to have direct connections between the two countries,” he said. He also said that Lithuanians have started travelling to Gulf countries recently. “Now this year in November, we will have a direct flight to Dubai from Vilnius. It took some time to develop this, but finally we have this,” he said.

He also said that Oman and Lithuania can collaborate in the fields of infrastructure, energy, port facilities, logistics, agriculture, cybersecurity, e-governance, information technology and communications as we are positioned strategically in one of the most important points of Europe.
