Oman's electricity generation rises 3.9%

Muscat: The total electricity generation in the Sultanate of Oman until the end of July 2023 increased by 3.9 percent to reach 25,133.6 gigawatts per hour, compared to 24,181.9 gigawatts per hour during the same period in 2022.

Preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicated that each of the governorates of Al-Dhahirah, South and North Al-Batinah recorded an increase in total electricity generation at the end of July 2023 by 1.8 percent, reaching 16,072 gigawatts per hour.

Electricity generation also increased in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate by 137 percent to reach 127.8 gigawatts per hour, as well as in the North and South Al Sharqiyah Governorates by 7 percent to reach 5,628.7 gigawatts per hour, in the Dhofar Governorate by 13.8 percent, reaching 2,727.6 gigawatts per hour, and in the Musandam Governorate by 2.1 percent reaching 260.7 gigawatts per hour.

Total electricity generation in Muscat Governorate decreased by 12.7 percent, recording 267.4 gigawatts per hour, and total production in Al Wusta Governorate decreased by 36.3 percent, reaching 114.2 gigawatts per hour.

As for the Sultanate of Oman’s net electricity generation until the end of July 2023, which includes the purchases of the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the purchases of the Rural Areas Electricity Company by region, it amounted to 24,357.2 gigawatts per hour, with the largest amount of net electricity generation coming in each of Al-Dhahirah and the governorates of South and North Al-Batinah, which amounted to 15,488.9 gigawatts per hour.

On the other hand, the total amount of water produced in the Sultanate of Oman witnessed an increase of 1.8 percent to reach 301.98 million cubic metres at the end of July 2023, compared to 296.77 million cubic metres at the end of the same period in 2022. The production of water in the Dhofar Governorate increased during this period by 3.1 percent, and in Muscat Governorate by 1.8 percent. -
