More than 10,000 Indian expats have benefitted from GMEC counters in Oman annually

Muscat: More than 10,000 Indian expatriates have benefitted every year since 2018 for their renewal of passport and attestation services, provided by Global Money Exchange Company (GMEC) in collaboration with BLS International Services, at nine different cities in Oman.

The nine centres of the Global Money Exchange Company have been rendering the services against a prescribed fee on behalf of the Indian Embassy in Oman at Salalah, Sohar, Shinas, Buraimi, Nizwa, Ibri, Sur, Khasab and Duqm. The services have provided a big relief to expatriates who live in these cities as it avoids the hassle of making a trip to Muscat to get the passport-related work or attestation of documents.

Speaking to Times of Oman, R. Madhusoodanan, Executive Advisor to GMEC Board, said: “We feel happy to be serving the Indian community. The fact that more than 10,000 people have utilised the services at our centres annually since 2018 makes us feel proud to play a role in supporting the Indian expats in Oman.”

Three new branches opened in Salalah
As part of its expansion plans, GMEC recently inaugurated three new branches at Salalah International Airport with an aim to provide world class services and support international tourism in the Dhofar Governorate. Following the opening of three branches, the total number of branches in the Dhofar Governorate have risen to ten, the highest among all the exchange houses in the region.

GMEC, managed by State Bank of India, was established in the year 2002 and is one of the leading exchange companies in Oman.

GMEC has direct banking arrangements with more than 35 banks in several countries. The services of popular International Money Transfer agents are also available.

“Global Freedom” the online transfer facility is widely accepted by customers.

GMEC is also planning to launch a revamped mobile application with more features in place of the existing mobile app. The GMEC branches deal in all major currencies of the world and also has a wholesale currency division where currencies are bought and sold at competitive rates.

GMEC also announced registration and periodical subscription payments to the Kerala Pravasi Welfare Fund that is offered through all their branches.

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, GMEC has opened branches in the Oman Exhibition and Convention Centre (OCEC) and at Port Sultan Qaboos (PSQ) at Muttrah to meet the foreign currency requirements of tourists visiting Oman.

GMEC also provides encouraging employment opportunities to locals and also impart training to the local staff in various areas including leadership programmes.

K.S. Subromoniyan, GMEC Managing Director, said: “GMEC aims to give top priority to the digital front, which is in tune with Oman government’s Vision 2040 as well as various digital initiatives of the Central Bank of Oman.”
