Muscat: Muttrah’s iconic fort reopened to the public this Eid Al Fitr for the first time since undergoing extensive renovations.
In a tweet welcoming visitors to the fort, the “The Ministry of Tourism will open the doors of the Muttrah Fort to visitors on Monday the 18th after its restoration and renovation.”
These stunning images show just why this historic landmark is certain to become a favourite thanks to its sweeping views of the corniche and unique architectural features.
Located on top of a rocky, narrow hill, Mutrah Fort stands tall facing the sea and inhaling the winds that waft the fragrant memory of ships gone by, ships that once sailed these azure waters.
The fort currently consists of three circular towers: A huge one sitting on the summit and the remaining smaller two are located one at the first point in the West, and the other, which still houses one of the old cannons, to the north of the fort near the large tower.
