Mall of Muscat hosts Oman’s first indoor 5000-metre race

Muscat: Mall of Muscat, Oman’s premier shopping destination, played host to the historic Muscat Refresh Race 2023, Sultanate’s first indoor running marathon that brought together passionate runners spanning all age groups. The race featured four distinct categories, including a 5000-metre challenge for men, a 5000-metre run for women, a 1000-meter contest for children aged 10-12, and an exciting 300-metre fun run tailored for children aged three to nine.

There were a total of 186 participants in the men’s and women’s categories combined, while the children’s category had 120 participants. While the men's race started at 7:00 am, the women's race began at 8:00 am, and the children’s race took place at 4:00 pm.

Abdullah Salim Al Qarini claimed victory with a time of 15:27.11, closely followed by Abdellah Hassan Ousghir at 15:30.78 and Muhssen Suleiman Al Hatmi, who secured third place with a time of 15:34.00.

A spokesperson for Mall of Muscat said, “The Refresh Race 2023 Marathon served as a resounding testament to our unwavering dedication to fostering an active and healthy lifestyle among the community. We were truly elated to witness the remarkable turnout of individuals spanning all age groups, united by their passion for fitness and the sheer joy of running. Our sincerest gratitude goes out to every participant, invaluable sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and the supportive local community for their enthusiastic involvement. We also wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the local authorities whose steadfast support played an instrumental role in bringing this event to life. Mall of Muscat served as the venue sponsor, while Dr. Nutrition provided support as the nutrition and energy drink sponsor. Chulha Oman, an Indian cuisine restaurant, was the official beverage sponsor for the event. Additionally, a group of other valued sponsors included UFC Gym, Healthy Habit, Oman Running Team, Muscat Track, One Way Team, Garmin, Bausher Club, and Rovers Bausher Club. The prize money to the winners was sponsored by Janaab Sayyid and Muhallab Mundhir Majid Al Said.
