Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, received Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary of State of the Vatican City for Relations with States and International Organisations, on the sidelines of the meetings of the seventy-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting at the headquarters of the Sultanate of Oman’s permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York, Sayyid Badr discussed topics of common interest, and the two sides affirmed their support for dialogue between civilisations and cultures and their commitment to the values of tolerance, understanding and respect, the rules of international law and the United Nations Charter.
They agreed to enhance constructive cooperation and common benefits for the good and harmony among nations.
During the reception of Mohamed Salem Ould Marzouk, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, the two sides discussed cooperation between the two countries in various fields and ways to enhance and develop them in a way that serves the common interests of the two brotherly people. The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues.
In a meeting with Miguel Moratinos, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Sayyid Badr discussed the efforts made to promote understanding and tolerance and combat the phenomena of hatred, intolerance and discrimination on the basis of religion or race, as they exchanged views on enhancing cooperation and partnership between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations.
On the other hand, Oman’s Foreign Minister received his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dačić, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance them, in addition to exchanging opinions and viewpoints on a number of current regional and international issues of common interest.
Within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Serbia in various fields, two memorandums of understanding were signed regarding political consultations and cooperation in the fields of diplomatic studies and training between the two diplomatic academies of the two foreign ministries.
The agreement was signed on the part of the Sultanate of Oman by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, and on the Serbian side by Ivica Dačić, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Foreign Minister met with Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, during which bilateral relations between the two countries were reviewed, and various aspects of cooperation and ways to enhance them were discussed, and viewpoints were exchanged on a number of current regional and international issues of common interest, and the two sides agreed to hold the next session of the Omani-Algerian Joint Committee within the next few months in Algeria.
The meeting of Sayyid Badr with his Belarusian counterpart, Sergei Aleinik, touched on friendly relations and cooperation and ways to enhance them in various fields to serve the aspirations of both countries, and discussed the most prominent developments in the regional and international arenas.
The meetings were attended by Ambassador Dr. Mohammed bin Awad Al Hassan, Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, Sheikh Humaid bin Ali Al Maani, Head of the Global Affairs Department, and a number of officials from both sides.
