Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman's Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced the start of seasonal flu vaccinations for target segments.
The ministry said: “Under the slogan ‘Let’s get vaccination’ the Ministry of Health announces to citizens the beginning of vaccination for the seasonal influenza vaccine according to the following target groups:
- People with chronic diseases (such as respiratory diseases and heart, kidney, liver, nervous and blood disorders or metabolism including uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, obesity Hypersensitivity and immunodeficiency) in adults and children over the age of 6 months.
- Health workers, including students enrolled in medical specialties.
- Expecting mothers
- Children aged 24 months
- Senior Citizens (60 years and older)
The target groups are urged to go to the nearest health institution to take the seasonal influenza vaccine in order to avoid contracting influenza infection that affects the respiratory system, which may cause serious complications.
The Ministry clarified that the vaccine is also available in private sector for citizens and residents not in the targeted groups.
