Sayyid Asa'ad chairs Omani delegation at G20 Summit

Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said chaired the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman in the closing session of the 18th G20 Summit, which was held in the Indian capital, New Delhi

Representing His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik , His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, chaired the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman in the closing session of the 18th G20 Summit, which was held in the Indian capital, New Delhi.

His Highness delivered a speech at the closing session of the 18th G20 Summit in which he touched on the Sultanate of Oman’s emphasis on the utmost importance of joint action and its agreement with the Indian presidency’s vision of building “one future” for human civilisation, especially in light of the challenges expected to be faced in the coming years.

His Highness said that the Sultanate of Oman values ​​the topics discussed and focused on financing future cities, and shares the Indian presidency’s vision of the right of the competent authorities, especially international financing bodies, to take these endeavours into account when planning and financing infrastructure.

His Highness expressed the Sultanate of Oman’s welcome of the remarkable efforts made through many tracks that seek to define the global skills map and reduce the inherent gap between it and the requirements of the labor market.

His Highness pointed out that digital infrastructure, and dedicating it to serve everyone, will play an important role in achieving sustainable economic growth. This is in line with the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman, which welcomes initiatives that make ways of knowledge available to all, and agrees with the countries of the group to build safe, reliable and established principles for the digital economy.

His Highness explained that 'Oman Vision 2040' gives great importance to education, scientific research and innovation in support of the development goals of the Sultanate of Oman, and emphasizes sustainable financing for these pivotal sectors, and investment in human resources in order to build a diversified knowledge economy that keeps pace with the requirements of the times and entrepreneurship, and is able to confront and overcome challenges.

His Highness appreciated the invitation of the Republic of India to the Sultanate of Oman to participate in the 18th summit of the G20, which is an indication of the depth of relations between the two friendly countries. He congratulated the friendly Republic of India on the successful landing on the moon, which represents a great achievement and a turning point towards a promising future.

His Highness also congratulated the African Union on its accession as a member of the G20, expressing at the end of his speech the best wishes of the Sultanate of Oman to the friendly government of Brazil for assuming the presidency of the next session of the G20 meetings.

Prior to the closing session, His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan and the rest of the heads of the delegations participating in the summit visited the Mahatma Gandhi memorial in the Indian capital, New Delhi, and placed a bouquet of flowers on the monument.

The 18th summit of the G20 held the slogan "One Earth, One Family, One Future" and focused on the issue of sustainable development, in addition to measures to spread economic growth in a more balanced manner between developed and developing countries.

The summit discussed many important issues, including ways to promote green development, financing plans to confront the effects of climate change, the European Union Environment and Climate Action Programme, promoting strong and sustainable economic growth, the progress that has occurred in efforts to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Plan, technological transformation, digital infrastructure and the efforts of international institutions to promote development.

It also focused on various topics, such as loans to developing countries, debt structuring, cryptocurrency regulation, and geopolitical tensions.

It is worth noting that the Sultanate of Oman’s participation in the 18th session of the G20 came at a special invitation from the friendly Republic of India, to confirm the depth of relations between the two countries, and to consolidate the position of the Sultanate of Oman as one of the active partners at the regional and international levels.
