
Salalah: The Standing Preparatory Committee at the ministerial level of the GCC Economic and Development Affairs Authority held the 5th meeting of in Salalah on Wednesday.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy, and attended by Chairmen of the Standing Preparatory Committee at the ministerial level of the GCC Economic and Development Affairs Authority.
Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy, delivered a welcoming speech at the meeting in which he stressed the magnitude of the efforts to develop cooperation, coordination, and integration among member states.
He pointed out that the review of the development path of the GCC countries in general underpins the importance of the role played by the GCC Economic and Development Affairs Authority.
In recent years, the GCC economies have witnessed further improvement and recovery, and the GCC countries have been able to contain inflationary pressures that have worsened in most countries of the world during 2022 he added.
Al Saqri also also pointed out that intra-GCC exports increased by 13.4 percent reaching $83.4 billion in 2021 compared to $73.5 billion in 2020.
The draft agenda of the meeting included a number of important topics, foremost of which are: the decisions issued by the GCC Supreme Council at its 43rd session held in December 2022, to achieve economic unity.
The ministers also reviewed the proposal of the Secretariat General on the governance of the joint Gulf economic and development action, in addition to the latest updates in the action plan for building the Gulf economic model and its mechanism, along with the proposed timeframe.
In addition, the meeting reviewed the outputs and recommendations of the future integration prospects in the economic and development fields of the GCC countries.
The Gulf Statistics Centre also presented a detailed performance dashboard for the level of implementation in the GCC common market, and the outputs of the statistical survey to measure the implementation of the decisions of the Gulf joint action.
The Committee’s decisions and recommendations will be submitted to the Supreme Committee for Economic and Development Affairs at its next session.
