Ministry holds workshop on monitoring SDGs indicators

Muscat: The Ministry of Education, represented by the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, in cooperation with the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha, implemented on Tuesday a workshop on preparing reports and monitoring indicators of the fourth goal of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) Education - 2030.

The two-day workshop is taking place in the Ministry’s General Diwan under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, and head of the team.

The workshop began with a welcoming speech, delivered by Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, in which he thanked the team members for their presence and dedication in carrying out the tasks entrusted to them.

He also stressed on the importance of this workshop in providing the members with the skills necessary to draft reports related to the fourth goal and the use of qualitative data to calculate standard indicators, the proposed structure and areas of content, data sources and the analytical plan for the fourth goal report, monitoring, and analysing it.

Farida Abudan, Educational Programmes Specialist at the UNESCO Regional Office for the Arab Gulf States and Yemen, indicated that this workshop comes within the framework of the UNESCO’s cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman with regard to the fourth goal in particular, and the sustainable development goals in general.

This workshop also comes on the sidelines of the Sultanate of Oman preparation for the second voluntary report on the goals of sustainable development - 2030, which will highlight the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman in comprehensive development in accordance with the principles of Oman Vision 2040.

The workshop, presented by Dr. Subramaniam Venkatraman, an international expert specialised in the reports of the fourth goal and monitoring related indicators related, included several themes, including: indicators of the fourth goal of the sustainable development goals, issues related to data, challenges of their availability during the preparation of reports, and their standards and quality that affect the monitoring of the fourth goal of sustainable development goals.

The workshop’s themes also included the use of qualitative data, the preparation of case studies, and the use of national surveys to monitor the fourth goal of the sustainable development goals, contents, data sources and analytical plan.
