About 36 Kg of rotten food destroyed in Muscat in 2023

Muscat: The number of raids carried out by Muscat Municipality in all wilayahs of the governorate in 2023 amounted to (6) raids, resulted in the release of (5) fines and (5) certificates of destruction. The amount of rotten meat that was damaged was approximately (36) kg, and (118) tools confiscated for their damage and un-usability. Violators were also referred to the competent authorities to complete the legal proceedings.

Administrative decision (55/2017) on administrative penalties for violations of Muscat Municipality has indicated that in case of practicing a commercial activity without obtaining a license from the competent authorities is a fine of (300) Omani rials, and, if a food promotion seized without the approval of the municipality a fine of (٣٠٠) three hundred Omani rials. The food will be confiscated and damaged if proven invalid for human consumption. In case food was found to be prepared and circulated in unlicensed places is also subject to a fine of (٣٠٠) three hundred Omani rials.

Muscat Municipality calls on local community in reporting such unhealthy practices by calling the Call Center (1111) or through various social networking sites of the municipality, and also appeals to the owners of abandoned or rented houses to follow up on ensuring their compliance with the appropriate hygienic requirements without practicing any unauthorized side activities that may lead to serious health, environmental and security risks.
