Muscat: The Ministry of Labour (MoL) will begin a survey to understand the needs of the private sector in line with aspirations of Oman Vision 2040.
In remarks to Maa Al Shabiba radio show, Huda Al Shibli, director of the survey project at the Ministry of Labour, said: “This is a key survey project which will help us better understand the needs of the private sector with regards to the labour needs.”
The survey is expected to begin from September and will last for three months during which a total of 3,000 private sector establishments across 18 economic areas will be covered.
Huda said: “The survey is part of the national policy on employment, which is aimed to improve the labour governance across the private sector establishments in accordance with the market requirements in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education.”
The survey project head added: “We aim to identify and measure the labour market needs and requirements including the jobs and various skills besides identifying the future needs.
“The survey would be conducted every two years, adding that the findings of the survey would help the policy makers to take related decisions and know the current and future demand for jobs and skills."
“It would also help them assess the jobs and the gap in the skills of the current manpower and the new skills required in the labour market. It would also help us know the difficulties the private sector establishments face in terms of their sustainability.”
Huda said that the survey will help identify the need of specialisations, skills and jobs that are not available in the current manpower in order to open the door for recruitment of expatriate manpower.
“To ensure a smooth conduct of the survey, we have formed a field work team, comprising 61 members from the various governorates, along with a central team for supervision and follow up,” added Huda.
