Muscat: Eid ‘Habta’ markets will begin in the coming days in a number of Wilayats of the Sultanate.

Eid Habta is an open market to display the various commodities that people need during Eid, including livestock of all kinds.

The first ‘Habta’ markets are held on the 24th of Ramadan in the Wilayat of Bausher in the Governorate of Muscat, Fanja in the Wilayat of Bidbid in the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah, and Wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid of Ibra.

On the 25th of Ramadan, Eid ‘Habta’ is held in the villages of Al Thabti and Al Yahmadi in the Wilayat of Ibra.

It is also held in the Wilayat of Al Hamra and Nafa’a in the Wilayat of Bidbid.

On the 26th of Ramadan, ‘Habta’ markets are held in the Wilayats of Nizwa, A’Rustaq, Sumail (Suroor), Sur, Wadi Al Ma’awel, Al Khabourah, Al Mintarib in the Wilayat of Bidiyah.

On 27th of Ramadan, the ‘Habta’ takes place in the wilayats of Ja’alan Bani Bu Ali, A’Suwaiq, Bahla, Barka, Ja’alan Bani Bu Hassan, Nakhal, A’Seeb, and Al Qabil.

On 28th of Ramadan, ‘Habta’ takes place in the wilayats of Al Kamil Wa Al Wafi and Al Qabil.

There is a fixed timing for most of the Sultanate’s ‘Habta’ markets, from sunrise to 11 am and sometimes to 1 pm.

Eid ‘Habta’ witnesses great turnover since early morning and people from various villages in the wilayat and nearby and neighbuoring wilayats visit the ‘Habta’.

‘Habta’ is also an opportunity for breeders to sell their livestock at good prices.

Many citizens are keen to buy small livestock known as “babies” for use in the traditional Omani meal known as “Al Arsiya”.

Eid ‘Habta’ is an ancient legacy in the Sultanate.

Traditional markets are held in Eid occasions in open spaces or under the shade of palm trees, mangoes, Ghaf, or near castles and forts.

There is a high demand for ‘Habta’ from citizens, residents and tourists.
