Muscat: Driving to Jabal Akhdar? Here are some safety tips.
Make sure you are driving a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
At a checkpoint before the steep climb, the Royal Oman Police will turn away cars that are not fit for the ascent.
A good place to fill up on fuel, since petrol stations are few and far between, is at Birkat Al Mouz, the gateway to Jabal Akhdar.
Keeping to a moderate pace is safer than speeding up the hairpin turns.
Be cautious when passing large trucks and be mindful of the road markings when doing so.
