India-Omani Earth Observation Platform inaugurated

Muscat: In a cooperation initiative between the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and the Indian Space Research Organization, His Excellency Engineer Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, inaugurated the India-Omani Earth Observation Platform.

With the aim of learning about the Indian experience in the field of space, His Excellency the Minister  visited the headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organisation. During which he met with His Excellency S. Sumanth, the head of the organisation, and a number of officials and specialists, areas of cooperation and partnership in the space sector were discussed.

The platform was developed and gifted by the organization to the Sultanate of Oman, and includes images and data of Indian Earth Observation satellites; which aims to maximize its usefulness for terrestrial space applications by making it available for the uses of various development sectors such as agriculture, water and fisheries, transportation, natural disaster management, urban development, renewable energy and other uses.

 On the sidelines of the visit, His Excellency the engineer and his accompanying delegation visited the Indian Satellite Control and Monitoring Center, where they witnessed the stage of separation of the Gandrian 3 spacecraft from the capsule, to prepare for landing on the moon's surface.

At the end of the visit; a joint meeting was held with a number of Indian companies specialized in space industries and with some emerging Indian companies in the information and communication technology sector.

This is to get acquainted with the experience of these companies and to learn about the services they provide, in addition to marketing the investment opportunities available in the Omani market.
