Empowering the Voices of Youth: TEDx Alilam Youth

Muscat: Oman Across Ages Museum organized a Tedx event titled 'TEDxAlilam Youth' on August 11, 2023. The event was managed by a team of young volunteers, all under the age of 25 years.

The host, Reenad Al Shuaily is a fresh high school graduate and the founder of 'Two Thousand Magazines.' What makes her feat remarkable is the fact that she received a license to host the event just three months before.

TEDx events are licensed by TED but organized and run by local individuals or groups, the “x” stands for independently organized events. TEDx events feature a discovery number of speakers delivering short and powerful talks on a variety of topics centered around the themes of “Ideas worth spreading”.

Crediting her team members, Reenad says, “Without the collaborative contributions, bringing the event to fruition would have been a challenge,” she says.

The event was designed to amplify the voices and ideas of young visionaries by cultivating a culture of innovation, curiosity, and intellectual exploration.

The event's mission was to provide a stage for young individuals to share their distinctive perspectives, stories, and insights, empowering them to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

The theme of the event was time-travel, set to take the attendees on a mind-bending journey through the realms of past, present, and future.

The Speakers
The journey began with Maktoum Al Muqbali sharing insights into human evolution from the discovery of fire to the invention of AI.
It was followed by Sumaiya Al Siyabi's urgent call to address the environmental impact of plastic. Al Harith Al Harthy, took the attendees into a journey of imagination and how overthinking can turn into a positive attitude.

Transitioning to the event's second segment, the speaker Rayyan Al Hinai unveiled the architecture as a timeless language with a soul, while Noor Al Huda whisked the attendees away to a world of adventure and self-discovery. Dr. Munther Al Busaidi concluded, delving into the enduring relevance of behavioral sciences.

“As cliché as it may sound, I always say that age doesn't matter, you may make a lot of mistakes and not have the experience, but as long as it happens you learn.”, Reenad expressed.

Summing up, she says that the Omani youth have the energy, idea, creativity, and all they have to do is work hard.
