Salalah: The ‘Logos Hope’ ship, the largest floating library in the world, arrived at the Port of Salalah on Saturday, where it opened its doors with a visual presentation about the ship, its objectives and what it offers during its journey around the world, through 400 volunteers from different countries of the world.
His Highness His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, said: “The ship carries more than one element of attraction through communication between people and the promotion of public health and education. The presence of the largest mobile book fair in the world with its diverse books from different languages, targets all age groups and provides an opportunity to refine life skills.”
He pointed out that the ship’s docking at the port of Salalah coincided with the Khareef Dhofar season, in which there are many tourists from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, and this is an additional element that enhances the cultural aspects that the season seeks to portray.
For his part, Edward David, the ship’s manager, said: “The ship visited many cities around the world, and the city of Salalah is the last Arab station to stop at, pointing out that this visit is the second since 2011.
The ship will stay at the port of Salalah for 7 days, receiving visitors daily from four in the afternoon until ten in the evening.
It should be noted that the “Logos Hope Ship” is one of the most famous mobile book fairs in the world. During its movement around the world, it transfers knowledge through a series of seminars and cultural events that are presented to visitors inside the ship, which includes a wide range of titles and books, numbering more than 5,000.
The “Logos Hope” docked at the Port of Sultan Qaboos in the Wilayat of Muttrah from 14-22 July, to be its third visit, as it had previously visited the Sultanate of Oman twice, the first in 2011, and the second in 2013, and it is owned by the German charitable organization. Since its establishment in 1970, it has visited more than 150 countries and territories around the world, and the number of its visitors has reached 49 million people since its launch as a library in 2009, while its staff includes volunteer employees from more than 70 nationalities, numbering 400 people.
