Oman weather: Heavy rain and sandstorms in parts of the Sultanate

Muscat: Heavy rain and sandstorms hit different parts of Oman on Monday.
“Heavy rain fell in Salalah, wilayat of Mahdah in Al Buraimi governorate, Nizwa, Izki, Yangul and Nakhal,” said Bader Ali Al Baddaei, an administrator of www.rthmc.net, a local Web-based forum that discusses weather in Oman quoting the residents.
“Rain fell in Ibri along with a wild sandstorm,” he added.
‘Even though the rain (was) light but the storm was heavy,” a resident in Ibri told Times of Oman.
“So far we didn’t heard about any damages caused because of the wind,” he added.
Oman meteorological department has also predicted intermittent rains in some parts of Sultanate on Tuesday. Clouds in the Dhofar region and Al Hajar Mountains will cause intermittent drizzle and fog formation, according to its recent weather forecast.
The department added that clear to partly cloudy skies are expected over the rest of the Sultanate with chances of of late night to early morning low level clouds along most of the coastal areas of the sultanate and parts of the governorates of north Al Sharqiya and South Al Sharqiya.
Also, tomorrow afternoon there are chances of convective clouds development with isolated rain occasionally thundershowers over Al Hajar Mountains and adjacent wilayats. And there is a chance of high clouds advection over the northern governorates and chances of dust rising wind over deserts and open of the Sultanate.
Very isolated showers and storms are possible into Tuesday,” Jason Nicholls, a senior meteorologist at Accuweather.com, said.
