Discussion on use of satellite technology for Oman’s benefit

Muscat: A seminar was organised for raising awareness about the latest developments in the satellite field and ways to transfer and achieve localisation of satellite technologies, building national capacity and taking advantage of Oman’s satellite technology.
A workshop titled “Sultanate’s Satellite Options” began at Al Bustan Palace Hotel yesterday under the auspices of Said bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Ports and Maritime Affairs.
The two-day seminar is being organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, in cooperation with Thales Alenia company.
Said bin Hamdoon Al Harthy said in a statement: “This is the second seminar of its kind related to satellite and organised by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, in collaboration with private companies with the participation of a number of specialists from related parties in the government and private sectors, educational institutions in the Sultanate and representatives of international bodies to review the latest tools and technologies used in the field of satellite and brainstorm and exchange views and inquiries about new technologies.”
The seminar will see discussions on satellite technology and organisational matters related to its working, funding and structure, safety system, the operation and management system of the load, in addition to Omani national capacity-building and training mechanism on the satellite system, transfer of competencies in the field of space, obtaining orbital rights to the orbit site and frequencies, besides reviewing the model procurement plans and the overall schedule to implement them.
