Oman transport: Mwasalat passenger numbers peak on first day of Eid

Muscat: Oman’s national bus service carried a record number of passengers on the first day of Eid, the company has announced.
Oman National Transport Company, ‘Mwasalat,’ said that it ferried 18,000 passengers on that day, the highest for a single day, since it started operating.
The total number of passengers on board the Mwasalat buses during Eid Holiday was 72,000, with an average of more than 14,000 passengers a day.
With more than 30,000 passengers, the Ruwi-Mabelah route topped the list when it came to the number of passengers carried during Eid Holiday (5-9 July). Ruwi-Wadi Al-Kabir with 13,000 passengers and Ruwi-Ameraat with almost the same number follow the Ruwi-Mabelah route. The Ruwi-Muscat route with more than 11,000 passengers was next, followed by the Ruwi-WadiAdei route with more than 4,000 passengers. A total of 20 per cent Omanis used ‘Mwasalat’ buses.
‘Mwasalat’ plans to operate a new route across Khoud-SQU-Sahwa Tower during the third quarter of this year, when it will also launch a service for the Muscat-Duqm route.
Mwasalat has increased its trips to Salalah during Salalah Festival 2016, starting from the third day of Eid-Al-Fitr with three to five daily trips, providing 225 seats per day during the Salalah Autumn Festival 2016.
