Muscat: Parking a car for sale in an undesignated area is illegal, according to a statement issued by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) on Sunday.
"Parking a vehicle for sale in areas that are not specified for sale or display is a violation of traffic law," ROP's statement read. The police have the authority to "confiscate the vehicle", and all the expenses related to the process of the police removing the illegal vehicle must be paid by the owner of the vehicle.
Muscat Municipality also advised residents against displaying their vehicles in public areas for sale. Throughout the year the municipality has towed a number of illegal vehicles in an attempt to implement the policy.
According to an order issued by Muscat Municipality, those who leave their vehicles for sale or for advertisement purposes in public parking areas (metered) and sidewalks will also be slapped a fine of OMR500. However, the municipality fine is only applicable in areas subjected to parking meters and differs from the ROP fines.
