MUSCAT: A total of 21,980 Omanis working in the private sector earn more than OMR2,000 per month, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) data.
The number of Omanis working in the private sector who receive a monthly salary of OMR2,500 or more has increased by 9 percent to reach 14,726 at the end of May 2023 while those receiving between OMR2,000 and OMR2,500 rose by 6.4 percent to reach 7,254 workers.
The NCSI data says that the number of Omani workers who receive a monthly wage between OMR1,000 and OMR2,000 has seen a jump of 6.1 percent to reach 37,008 and those getting a monthly pay between OMR500 to OMR600 rose by 10.6 percent to reach 38,290 workers.
The data further reveals that citizens who receive a monthly wage between OMR325 and OMR400 decreased by 13.2 percent to reach 74,560 workers.
The total number of Omani workers in the private sector and those who are insured reached 277,189 at the end of May 2023, registering a decline of 1.1 percent compared to the same month of last year, according to data from the NCSI.
The data further reveals that most of the Omani citizens working in the private sector in construction-related activities stood at 51,933, wholesale and retail trade 40,049, mining and quarrying 34,848, manufacturing industries 33,841 workers, administrative services activities 22,888 and transportation and storage 21,852 workers.
On the other hand, the number of expatriate labour workers in the Sultanate of Oman reached 1.784 million at the end of May 2023, of which 1.406 million workers were in the private sector, 44,236 in the government sector, 326,685 are working in the family sector.
Most of the expatriate workforce is concentrated in engineering professions totalling 738,710, service professionals 556,529, 112,254 are in industrial, chemical processes and food industries and 101,124 are in sales professions.
