Event held to raise awareness on production, marketing of dates

Bidiyah: North Al Sharqiyah Governorate is organising the ‘Al-Tabsil’ (unripe dates) activity for the production of ‘Al-Faghour’ in the Wilayat of Bidiyah on 8 and 9 July.

This event aims to focus on the importance of ‘Al-Faghour’ and its contribution to food security while enhancing its marketing potential to boost the income of people.

Sheikh Ali bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, the Governor of North Al Sharqiyah said that the idea of ‘Al-Tabseel (unripe dates) festival for the production of ‘Al-Faghour’ is to raise awareness among farmers for the necessity of paying attention to improve the quality of dates by using the latest technologies in its harvest, preparation and marketing.

The event also aims to produce Busoor and manufacture it in a way to maintain its quality, reduce cost and enhance the economic value of the ‘Al Faghour’ product as well as encourage interest in its use in various food industries such as nutritional supplements, pastries, sweets, and baby food. The event aims to encourage scientific research and innovation.

He pointed out that the wilayats of North Al Sharqiyah are famous for Al- Tabsil Season and production of Al Faghour especially in the Wilayat of Bidyiah. The wilayat produces one of the finest types of unripe dates due to its dry nature.

He stated that the programme is supervised by the office of the Governor of North Al Sharqiyah in collaboration with a number of relevant establishments.

The second day will include holding a scientific forum under the title of “Investment opportunities in Al Faghour Industry in the Sultanate of Oman” in cooperation with a number of relevant establishments with the participation of researchers, specialists and academicians.

The forum will focus on the issues of production, manufacturing, marketing, export and the necessity of paying attention to the quality of the product to get competitive edge in the world markets.
