Ministry of Culture launches 2023 Arts Award for Omani citizens and residents

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has launched the Arts Award for 2023, in three categories: animated films, promotional films and movie soundtracks. Omani citizens and residents aged 18 years and above are eligible to participate.

The 2023 Arts Awards are aimed at discovering artistic talents and nurturing creativity of the university and college students. The initiative will also encourage young musicians, and enhance cooperation between musicians, producers, and directors to foster innovation.

Details about participation:

The participants in the Animation Production category, can create art using any of the animation methods like: 2D or 3D computer animation, clay animation, paper cut, or traditional animation and stop-motion techniques.

For promotional film category, participants are required to submit a video about the natural beauty of the Sultanate of Oman. The video should be 3-5 minutes long and can showcase a tourist attraction from any governorate. Special focus will be given to videos that deviate from the usual framework in filming and direction as well as the ones that use assistive technology.

For the soundtrack award category, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth will provide the film material to the registered participants. Participants will be contacted and the movie link will be sent to compose and install the soundtrack during the period from September 5-7, 2023.

Nurturing Creativity in Culture

Ibrahim bin Saif Bani Araba, Assistant Director General of the Directorate General of Arts at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, said: "The Arts Award is dedicated to creative talents in various artistic fields, including musical, popular, chanting, theatrical, cinematic, visual and digital arts, and photography. Every year, three fields are selected from the areas supervised by the Ministry."

Complementing the cultural strategy, “the initiative works on the axis of ‘Cultural Creativity and Development,’ and promotes creativity and innovation in culture by employing advanced technology for production. It also nurtures the talented and creative people in the cultural fields, " the Assistant Director General of the Directorate General of Arts at the Ministry added.
