IPL: Roy powers in Delhi victory over Mumbai

Mumbai: An unbeaten 91 by Jason Roy steered Delhi Daredevils to a seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in another thrilling encounter in the Indian Premier League on Saturday.
While the last ball victory gave the Daredevils their first success in three outings, the result condemned the Mumbai Indians to their third successive defeat.
Mumbai Indians scored 194 for seven in 20 overs thanks mainly to good contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Evin Lewis and Ishan Kishan.
Chasing the challenging total, the Daredevils were given a rousing start by Roy and captain Gautam Gambhir.
Despite departure of Gambhir (15) in the sixth over with total on 50, Roy kept the team in the chase in the first in the company of young Rishabh Pant and then Shreyas Iyer.
With the Mumbai Indians fighting back, Delhi still needed 11 runs off the last ball bowled by Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizu Rahman.
Though Roy smashed a four and a six off the first two deliveries, Mustafizur bowled three consecutive dots balls. Off the last ball of the innings, Roy managed to clear the infield to take a single and complete a thrilling victory.
While Roy remained not out on 91 scored off 53 ball with six fours and same number of sixes, Iyer was unbeaten on a 20-ball 27 with three fours and a six. Pant had earlier stroked six fours and two sixes in his 25-ball 47-run knock.
Earlier, the Mumbai Indians ploy of opening the innings with Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis worked well as the duo put on a 102-run stand.
While Suryakumar smashed 53 off 32 balls, Lewis scored 48 off 28 balls. Later young Ishan Kishan scored 44 off just 23 balls.
But captain Rohit Sharma (18) and the rest of the batsmen failing to notable contributions, Mumbai ended their innings at 194 for seven in 20 overs.
Delhi will now travel to Kolkata to take on the Knight Riders on Monday and Mumbai host Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday.
Brief scores: Mumbai Indians 194 for 7 in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 53, Evin Lewis 48, Ishan Kishan 44; Daniel Christian 2/35, Rahul Tewatia 2/36, Trent Boult 2/39) lost to Delhi Daredevils 195 for 3 in 20 overs (Jason Roy 91 n.o., Rishabh Pant 47, Shreyas Iyer 27 n.o.; Krunal Pandya 2/21, Mustafizur Rahman 1/25).
