Three expats arrested in Oman for human trafficking, smuggling drugs

Muscat: Three expats were arrested on charges of human trafficking and smuggling narcotics into the Sultanate, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) announced.

In the first case, two expats were arrested on the coast of the Wilayat of Liwa when they were attempting to bring in drugs and illegal migrants. In the second case, an expat was arrested in Bidbid on charges of possessing psychotropic substances with the intention of selling.

In a statement online, ROP said, “The officers of the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department, led by the police of North Al Batinah governorate, arrested two Asian nationals on the coast of the Wilayat of Liwa. The accused were attempting to smuggle narcotics and infiltrators into the Sultanate using a smuggling boat.”

An official source from the Royal Oman Police said: "The Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department, under the leadership of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate police, arrested an Asian national on charges of possessing psychotropic substances to trade and use them in the state of Bidbid. The suspect was seized with a quantity of marijuana."

The accused were referred to the judicial authorities to complete the investigation.
