Ministry of Transport, Communications and IT receives Saudi delegation

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology received today a delegation from the Transport General Authority (TGA) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

The visit aimed to enhance cooperation in the field of exchanging educational and training expertise and maritime employment.

The visit comes within the context of activating the memorandum of understanding signed between Oman and the KSA last September with respect to the mutual recognition of certificates of competency and eligibility for seafarers.
During the visit, the two sides discussed the restrictions imposed on competency certificates and the requirements for holding mandatory and qualifying courses.

The meeting also reviewed the Sultanate of Oman's experience in building an administrative system for seafarers’ certificates, quality standards for training and qualifying seafarers, a mechanism for issuing certificates and requirements for maritime service, in addition to the mechanism for conducting a medical examination for seafarers and a system for holding exams.

The Saudi delegation also visited the Oman Maritime College to view the registration and admission system, accredited educational programs and mechanisms for creating, accrediting and updating educational curricula. They also viewed the training facilities and the examination systems, as well as assessment mechanisms and maritime training.
