Municipality announces new project aiming to reduce traffic congestion in Al Khuwair region

Muscat: In order to facilitate traffic and smooth movement in a vital area with commercial activities, facilities and amenities; Muscat Municipality has announced its plan to launch a new project on the service road adjacent to the main Sultan Qaboos Street in the Wilayat of Baushar, in Al Khuwair region. The service road will be converted into a one-way road.

The project aims to address traffic congestion in one direction, thus avoiding traffic hazards and side turns, reducing noise, raising traffic efficiency, facilitating traffic, movement, and access between neighbourhoods and surrounding areas. The project also aims to serve public facilities, enhance commercial activity in the region, in addition to developing and improving the region, and adding aesthetic touches to it.

The project includes converting approximately 6 kilometers of service roads into one-way roads with two lanes in one direction, starting from the intersection of Al Khuwair Street, Road No. 3534 until the intersection of Ministries Street (below the bridge). The project includes the construction of two additional entry points to the main Sultan Qaboos Street in the middle of the road along the service road, as well as at the end of the service road. In order to reduce extra commute time.

The project also includes converting a number of side roads into one-way roads. In order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, the components of the project include the construction of new sidewalks, improved parking facilities, utility works and the construction of a new road link over the canal adjacent to the HSBC bank building.
