Muscat: The Sri Lankan community in Oman will be celebrating the Sinhala New Year on April 13. Sinhala and Hindu New Year is a national festival which has been celebrated in Sri Lanka for many centuries and by Sri Lankans around the globe.
The Sri Lankan Social Club in Oman in collaboration with Sri Lankan Embassy in Muscat will be organising a programme at Muscat Club, Wadi Kabir on April 13.
They are expecting a crowd of over 2,500 Sri Lankans from all over Oman to attend the day’s festivities. The Chief Guest for this annual event is the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Sultanate of Oman M K Pathmanathan.
The highlights of this New Year festival are the traditional food, dance, games among other rituals. The event will start in the morning with the traditional New Year proceedings and breakfast followed by the New Year games which are open for all Sri Lankan citizens residing in Oman.
There will also be a beauty pageant to choose the New year Queen (Avurudhu Kumari Pageant Show). This will be followed by a live Musical Entertainment show featuring Sri Lankan artists who will perform at the event.
