Muscat: All the athletes who have excelled in the sports field in 2022 and brought laurels for the country will be honoured under the patronage of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health today .
The Ministry will honour the athletes who have got top ranks in the sports field and made the country proud by winning gold, silver and bronze medals in international forums.
In addition, a number of sports federations, sports committees, and the technical and administrative staff will also be honoured.
Basil Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, said: “This reward is aimed at supporting Omani sportspersons for their achievements in the sports field and achieving ranks, which has led to award of 196 gold, silver and bronze medals for the Sultanate of Oman. We are proud of their achievements.”
He explained that the ministry had launched in 2022 a project to develop a system for preparing athletes for international competitions, and the current vision aims to support the efforts of sports federations and committees to expand the base under the supervision of federations and sports clubs through the programme 'Athlete Preparation Centres' and 'Support and Care for Promising Athletes' for the athletes who have been enrolled after fulfilling the admission requirements and have the requisite strength to make their mark at the international level.
He added: "In the framework of the keenness to find a database for the athletes of the Sultanate of Oman that can be relied upon to develop their physical capabilities and to define the map of the targeted sports according to accurate scientific data, the design and implementation of an “electronic programme to follow up their performance” has been started. It is expected to be launched during the June, and it is hoped that this will provide a comprehensive record of all athletes in the Sultanate of Oman and data for technical cadres in various sports sciences."
