Muscat: To review goals and programmes of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the Sultanate, and existing areas of cooperation with the relevant authorities in the Sultanate, a press conference was held on the occasion of the World Population Day, which falls on July 11 every year.
The meeting was held by the UNFPA Sub-Regional office for the GCC countries.
Salah bin Murtadha Al Saleh, Head of the Programmes and UNFPA in-charge said during the briefing, that the Fund is working with its partners in the GCC countries in order to achieve several objectives, including capacity-building support for the integration of reproductive health, gender equality, population issues, in line with the decisions of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) beyond 2015, the goals of sustainable development, support the availability of data and development indicators on population, and facilitate their use in a timely manner by the decision makers.
He added that the most important goals of the UNFPA are to support national capacity to integrate health services and information on good reproductive health in the healthcare systems of the competent authorities of youth and women, raising awareness on reproductive health and women’s empowerment, with a focus on participation and barriers to women’s access to reproductive health and youth development services.
