Muscat: In the light of a video that circulated on social media platforms about the physical abuse against children with disabilities by specialists working in a special rehabilitation center, the Ministry of Social Development has issued a decision to stop the institution from carrying out all its activities until further notice.
The ministry said in the statement that it intervened immediately upon receiving the report, as the specialized team visited the center to find out the details and rationale of the matter.
The Ministry has also referred the violators to the competent authorities through the Child Protection Committee for investigation and to take the necessary legal measures.
The Ministry affirmed its keen interest in caring for children with disabilities, preserving their psychological and physical safety and to continuously follow-up on providing the best rehabilitation services.
The Ministry also stated that it receives reports of abuse and complaints through the Ministry's call center 1555, in addition to the child protection number 1100.
