Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Austria celebrated here on Tuesday the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In a speech, Mohammed Nasser Al Wahaibi, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Administrative and Financial affairs said that Omani-Austrian relations are built on a solid foundation. The two sides are keen to advance cooperation in all fields.
Al Wahaibi pointed out that the two countries share mutual concepts and values, such as respecting international law and believing in diplomacy and dialogue as the means to solve regional and international issues and achieve international peace.
He added that the two countries aim to enhance cooperation in the fields of the environment, the water sector, education, investment and tourism.
In his turn, Christian Brunmayr, Ambassador of Austria to Oman, described the relations between the two countries as deep rooted. Those relations, he said, kept on developing steadily over the last 50 years.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), the ambassador said that the development of mutual relations serves both sides.
He also forged bilateral relations in various fields, such as politics, economy, energy and culture.
It is worth mentioning that diplomatic relations between Oman and Austria were established in 1973.
