Indian School Ibri celebrates 34th Annual Day

Muscat: Indian School Ibri celebrated its 34th Annual Day on 4th May 2023, with great enthusiasm and pride.  The theme of the celebration was “Brotherhood”.

The highlights of the annual day celebrations was the inaugural ceremony of Language Lab, Digital Library, 3D Lab, laying the foundation stone for a refurbished playground, upgraded Sports and Games facilities and a facelift to the auditorium by the Chief Guest Najeeb Ali Ahmed Al-Rawas, Governor of Al Dhahirah, Sultanate of Oman

The state of the language lab was installed as it was felt that it was a dire necessity for the students to up-skill their language curve. The acute requirements of the day is the Digital Lab leading the school towards a more modernised form of learning and introducing the students to future career options. The progress of the school could be seen in the installation of the 3D Lab, is the much-needed concept in the present scenario. It was felt that a modern playground was needed to accommodate the demands of the new generation and the required amenities were attached so that students could enjoy modern games. A facelift to the auditorium is needed to maximise the sound and lighting experience, a visual treat for the students.

H E Najeeb Ali Ahmed Al-Rawas, Governor of Al Dhahirah, Sultanate of Oman graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Irshad Ahmad, Counsellor (Labour and Community Welfare) Embassy of India, Muscat, Dr. Sivakumar Manickam, Chairman, BOD of Indian Schools in the Sultanate of Oman were the Guests of honour; the special guest was Mrs. Ashwini. S Sawrikar, Finance Director & DIC, BOD (Indian Schools in the Sultanate of Oman) and the other guests were Mr. Vinoba M.P the Educational Advisor cum Senior Principal, BoD, Officers from the various Ministries, Mr. T.S. Daniel & Dr. Thomas Varghese, the former Presidents of the SMC, Mr. Firoz Hussain, Mr. Unnikrishnan M P and Dr. Suresh Balakrishnan the former members of the SMC, Mr. Santha Kumar  Principal of Indian School Al Burami, Mr. Praveen Kumar the Principal of Indian school Muladha, Mr. Naveen Vijayakumar, the President of the SMC, Dr. Vijay Shanmugam, Vice President of SMC, Dr. R. Pugalarasu Treasurer, Dr. Amitabh Mishra Chairperson HSE ,Mr. Feslin Anish Mon (Chairperson: Academic and IT Sub Committee) other dignitaries, staff, parents and students were also present on the occasion.

The dignitaries were honoured with a guard of honour by the prefects and vice prefects led by the Head Boy, Master Aekaksh Poonia and the Head Girl, Ms. Eshmal Anjum. The auspicious event commenced with the Royal Anthem of Oman followed by the National Anthem of India. It was followed by the lighting of the auspicious lamp by the Chief Guest, Guests of honour and the specials guest.

The President of the SMC, Mr. Naveen Vijayakumar welcomed the gathering. In his welcome address he expressed his gratitude to parents, students, teachers and all   well-wishers and finally congratulated all the students on their achievements. Following him, the Principal, Mr. V.S. Suresh, presented the school’s Annual Report, which traced the long strides and significant progress, highlighting the school’s achievement in scholastic and co-scholastic fields. He also appreciated the teachers for their unconditional dedication and hard work.

He thanked the chairman, members of the board for their support. Moreover, he thanked the |SMC for their enthusiasm, support and commitment for launching the new Language Lab, 3D Lab and Digital Library; he also expressed his sincere gratitude to all the former presidents for their valuable contributions to the smooth functioning of the school. Finally, he wholeheartedly thanked the Chief Guest, guests of honour and all the other dignitaries for their gracious presence despite their busy schedules.

Following him, the Chief Guest in his speech appreciated all the students for doing well in the academics and thanked the school for inviting him to be the chief Guest and finally, he wished all the students with a prosperous future. Next, Mr. Irshad Ahmad, the Counsellor, Embassy of India, Muscat, appreciated how the school has developed in leaps and bounds in terms of logistics, academics, sports and infrastructure and thanked the past and present committee members for their efforts.

Moreover, he appreciated the students for their success in academic and non-academic activities from the bottom of his heart. Following him, Dr. Sivakumar Manickam, Chairman, BoD felt the pleasure of taking part in the school’s 34th Annual Day celebration. He pointed out the generosity of the Oman people in giving space to work in their country. He urged the students to learn new things each day and update their skills in learning new things without hesitation.

A multimedia presentation titled ‘Glimpses of the school Activities’ regarding all curricular and co-curricular activities held in the school during the academic year 2022-2023 was screened in the auditorium.

The new ERP was virtually launched by the Chief Guest His Excellency Najeeb Ali Ahmed Al Rawas; LMS was launched by the guest of honour Mr. Irshad Ahmed. To keep parents update with school news and notices the school Newsletter “Apogee” was released by the guest of honour, Dr. Sivakumar Manickam, the Chairman, BoD. Indian Schools in the Sultanate of Oman.

Academic Excellence awards for the students, Meritorious and special achievement awards for the staff and recognition awards for the former members of School Management Committee were distributed by the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour and the  Special Guest.

The Chief Guest, the guests of Honour and the Special Guest were felicitated  at the function with mementos as a token of love. Mr. Jamal Hassan, the convenor SMC proposed the vote of thanks.

The cultural program was tremendous, with a variety of colourful items. The audience marveled at some of the dancing steps. The theme brotherhood was portrayed through various performances presented by the students. The theme was conceptualized through different dances such as Merawala dance, Jugalbandhi, etc.

Dance such as boys’ fusion dance, mime, and pop dance left the audience fascinated and won many ovations and appreciation of one and all. The celebrations ended on an optimistic note insinuating the audience to work towards establishing brotherhood to all humanity and making the world a better place to dwell. Ms. Shirley Grace Naveen Vijayakumar, Ms. Milan Krishna, Ms. Eshmal Anjum, Ms. Choyei Shambu Nath, Ms. Filza Fathima, and Master Han Frano Blessing compered the programme in a very titillating manner, which added spice and flavour to the show.
