5 Omani students selected for the London International Youth Science Forum

Muscat:  The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation announced that five winners will represent the Sultanate of Oman at the London International Youth Science Forum 2023, on Monday at Innovation Park Muscat.

During the event, 34 candidates presented their projects in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in front of an evaluation panel. Out of the 34 candidates, 5 participants have been chosen by the Ministry to represent the Sultanate of Oman for the fifth time at this year’s forum.

The evaluation panel have selected Ilaf Yahya Al Kindi from Sultan Qaboos University with her project ‘Treating Oil Spills and Produced Water Using a Plant Derived Extracts and Powders’, Ibrahim Amur Al Barwani from Military Technological College with his project ‘Rocket Propulsion - Breaking the Bounds of Gravity’, Hamed Saleh Al Kalbnai from Sultan Qaboos University with his project ‘Smart and Integrated Mobile Application Service for Community Waste Handling Using Image Processing’, Nabras Hamdan Al Shukaili from Sultan Qaboos University with her project ‘Producing highly efficient biodiesel from unused plant seeds and recycling all production derivatives’, and Abdullah Said Al Hasni from National University Of Science and Technology with his project ‘Smart Gas Regulator’ to represent the Sultanate of Oman at the London International Youth Science Forum 2023.

Under the theme of ‘Science for Unity’, the London International Youth Science Forum will be held from July 26 to August 9, 2023. Participants of the London International Youth Science Forum 2023 will be able to attend lectures, workshops and field visits to the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London, and visit scientific laboratories, institutes and international companies.

It is worth noting that the participation of the Sultanate’s youth in the London International Youth Science Forum comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to raise scientific awareness among young researchers by giving them the opportunity to meet with their peers from different countries of the world, and to inform them of the latest findings of scientists in various fields of research and knowledge, and provide an opportunity for young Omani researchers to benefit from successful research experiences and distinguished scientific programs that are offered to the youth around the world.
