Muscat: With the World Health Organization finally declaring an end to the state of emergency for the Covid-19, a number of doctors in Oman said that there are many lessons to be learnt from the pandemic which has caused the death of more than 20 million people in the world.
Dr. Zaid bin Al-Khattab Al-Hinai, Assistant Professor and Consultant of Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, said: “There are many lessons from the pandemic at the local level. First, we must praise the strength of the health system in the Sultanate of Oman. We were transparent in transferring information to the community.”
He added that the Ministry of Health succeeded in providing the latest medicines and treatment whenever available on a large scale, and this confirms the feasibility of large investments in the health system, and also shows the importance of expanding and increasing investment in the health system by the government. Let’s enjoy better health and more prosperity.”
He stressed the need to develop the pharmaceutical industries and medical technology at the local level. The country’s ability to develop drugs and medical devices and manufacture them locally has become an important necessity so that we are not hostage to external factors in times of crisis, and there has been much talk today about food security, and in this context we must also talk about technical security and scientific security, as we have enough science, knowledge and industries to develop our technical needs by ourselves.
He said that during the pandemic, we saw wonderful examples of devotion and dedication to work by Omani and expatriate doctors, nurses, and technicians during the pandemic, and the Omani doctor set wonderful examples of health care and sacrifice for patients, and proved his competence well-deserved, which we saw on the ground while working in departments.
