Muscat: The Sohar Hospital expansion project will be opened next Thursday, May 11, 2023, at a total cost of OMR 28 million, Ministry of Health, (MOH), said.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) will inaugurate the expansion project under the patronage of H.E. Abdulsalam bin Mohamed Al-Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority, with the presence of H.E. Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health along with H.E. Dr. Said bin Harib Al-Lamki, the MOH Undersecretary for Health Affairs.
The total cost of the expansion of Sohar Hospital was estimated at OMR 28 million to increase the hospital's capacity to over 636 beds (i.e., increasing to 270 beds) in order to keep pace with the demand for specialised health services.
This expansion will also serve the residents of neighboring governorates, such as Al Buraimi and Musandam Governorate, by providing tertiary health care, which was exclusively available to specialised hospitals in the Governorate of Muscat.
The expansion project also includes the accident and emergency department, where the number of added beds reached 68, including eight for resuscitation (for adults and children), in addition to building an integrated intensive care unit for adults, including (17) beds, and intensive care unit for children with (16) beds.
Moreover, (24) incubators were added to the neonatal unit, and 25 beds for the dialysis unit were equipped with hemodialysis machines to keep pace with the steady increase in dialysis patients.
Many surgical specialties were added, and some surgical units were prepared and expanded to provide emergency treatment and surgical services, such as the cardiac catheterization service.
The extension includes the addition of a special unit for heart care consisting of two rooms equipped with the latest medical technologies. It has also started operating and performing catheterization operations and is providing a special ward for post-operative heart patients equipped with (22) beds. The special care unit is also available for heart patients, consisting of (12) beds and two (2) isolation rooms.
The new expansion also included the addition of (33) beds to the obstetrics and gynecology unit with an expansion of the Obstetric surgery room.
20 beds have also been included for the day-care unit to serve patients in need for temporary admission and daily operations.
In addition, an MRI unit was established. Two CT scan machines and two television x-rays (sonar x-rays), a mammography device, a bone density device, an upper gastrointestinal endoscope and respiratory endoscope were added in order to facilitate access to proper and accurate diagnosis and early detection of diseases.
Furthermore, the expansion project includes other health services provided by the Hospital such as four surgical operating rooms, expanded operating room of the maternity hall, the medical laboratory and blood bank, the sterilization unit, and the medical warehouse.
