Muscat: Eight deaths were reported in the Sultanate of Oman in separate incidents within ten days. The causes of deaths included drowning, sand collapse and gas leakage.
The period from April 26 to May 6 witnessed a number of unfortunate accidents that were announced officially or through social media.
The Times of Oman monitored these incidents on its social media sites wishing everyone safety and calling for caution whether on work sites, while driving on roads or during rain:
1- Drowning cases:
A- A wife and her husband were found dead after their vehicle drifted in a valley in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate.
Speaking exclusively to the Times of Oman, an official from the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) confirmed that a woman (21 years old) and her husband (33 years old) were found dead in Wadi Al-Bathaa, in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.
B- After three days of searching, the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority, (CDAA) found the body of missing boy Mohammed d Al-Rahbi aged 21 in Wadi Dayqah in the Wilayat of Dima Wal'Tayyin.
Social media circulated news about the drowning of a citizen from the Wilayat of Al-Amerat in the stream of Wadi Dayqah in the Wilayat of Dima Wal'Tayyin. This was during the period of air depressions accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy precipitation of hail since April especially in the south and north of Al-Sharqiyah, as a result of which valleys and water reefs spilled.
The Times of Oman contacted Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Rahbi, a relative of the boy who went missing in Wilayat of Dima Wal'Tayyin.
Al-Rahbi explained that the missing person was walking at 11 am on Friday, April 29, 2023, with a group of young men on the edge of one of the mountains of the (Toul) area of the Wilayat of Dima Wal'Tayyin, where his leg slipped and he fell on his head in the stream of the valley heading towards the Wadi Dayqah dam in the Al-Mazra' area in the Wilayat of Qurayyat.
2- Death due to a gas leak:
The Oil and Gas Workers Union published condolences on the death of citizen Yahya Al-Anbouri and stated in its condolences that the death was the result of a hydrogen sulfide gas leakage accident in the Mukhaizna field in Al-Wusta Governorate The union stated in another tweet that the leakage resulted in four other injuries.
3- Four deaths due to a landslide:
A- The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority said that the rescue teams in the Al Batinah South Governorate responded to a sand collapse that hit three workers while a company was carrying out maintenance work on the road leading to the village of Wakan in the Wilayat of Nakhal, where they were pulled out.
Speaking to the Times of Oman, a senior official of the CDAA said that the dead persons have been identified as Bangladeshi nationals. “They are all aged between 25 and 42 years of age,” the official added.
The incident happened around 11.50 am on Sunday morning. “Rescue teams from the CDAA in South Al Batinah Governorate responded to a sand collapse incident involving three workers while they were carrying out maintenance work on the road leading to Wakan village in the Wilayat of Nakhal.”
B- In the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, the authority responded to sand collapse that hit two workers of Asian nationality while they were digging a well in a farm in Al Muntreb in the Wilayat of Bidiyah, where one person was rescued, and the other one's dead body was recovered.
