The stand-up comedy scene in Oman is ablaze this May. The next icon to regale Muscat will be Rafi Bastos on his Unfamiliar Territory Tour, all the way from Brazil.
Rafi Bastos is a 6’7” tall Brazilian comedian with an accent like Dracula and a rapidly growing social media presence of stand-up clips in English. Many of Rafi’s viral stand-up clips come from nightly performances at the prestigious Comedy Cellar in New York, USA.
Rafi’s 17-year comedy and acting career, before coming to the United States, was covered in an interview on The Joe Rogan Experience. His videos with stage performances, music videos, interviews, and sketches have more than 370 million views on his Youtube channel alone. In 2011, he was considered by New York Times as the Most Influential Man on Twitter, at the time with 7 million followers (now at 11.4 million). In 2013, Rafi won the Shorty Awards, also known as the “Oscars of Social Media”, for Best Comedian.
Rafi’s quick-witted observational humor, intelligence, and worldly view have made him a hit online. He is the first Brazilian comedian to become a regular at the most renowned comedy clubs in the USA, including Comedy Cellar in New York and Laugh Factory in California. He is also the first Brazilian comedian to headline at Just for Laughs, the largest comedy festival in the world, hosted in Montreal, Canada.

Humor Infection is a comedy brand established in 2017 by homegrown comedian and TFM presenter Abbas Al Lawati. It is the only registered comedy brand in the country and the only one to represent Oman on an international stage - Dubai Comedy Fest, Short + Sweet theatrics and comedy, Beat The Gong and many more. The brand also hosts open mics and workshops for aspiring local comedians to take their game to the next level. The brand provided Oman's first ever virtual comedy workshop during Covid in which students participated from over six countries.
Abbas has over 14 years of experience in stand up and currently happens to be the only full time comedian in the Sultanate. His style of comedy ranges from observational to situational with a blend of crowd work to perfectly balance story-telling along with crowd participation. Abbas is also a radio presenter on TFM hosting Cruise Control which goes live from 4pm-7pm on weekdays
