2 expats arrested by ROP for stealing dogs

Muscat: Two British women have been arrested after they stole dogs from inside a private residential compound, according to Royal Oman Police.
The women, both of whom are teachers working in the Sultanate, are being held in a females-only detention centre near Muscat until their case is heard by the Public Prosecution.
A spokesman for the ROP said: “The case occurred in Seeb, and the two women were intoxicated, and managed to steal dogs from the owner while using the threat of a white weapon (knife).
“The two women have been detained by the Public Prosecution in the cleanest women’s detainment facility at the police station,” the spokesman added.
The two were confirmed to be English teachers who are employed in the Sultanate, and are based in Muscat.
Speaking to Times of Oman from their headquarters in London, a spokesman for their employer said: “We are aware of an incident in relation to two British teachers employed locally in Oman. We cannot discuss the details of an ongoing legal case and await the outcome of due process by the Omani authorities.”
The spokesman said they were in touch with consular officials at the British Embassy in Muscat. An embassy official said: “We are aware of the situation of the women. There are two women and we are working closely with the Omani official in this matter.”
